On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty, Professor Yu Miaojie, Deputy to the National People’s Congress, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Liaoning University, was invited to attend a diplomatic and academic exchange event at the residence of Consul-General of Japan in Shenyang on August 16. He engaged in discussions with Consul General Takashi Katae on various aspects, including the Sino-Japanese economy and culture.

Yu Miaojie expressed his gratitude to Consul-General Katae for the invitation extended by him and the ongoing support and assistance from the Consulate General of Japan in Shenyang to LNU. In response to the issues raised by Consul-General Katae regarding Sino-Japanese trade, revitalization of the Northeast region, and economic development in Liaoning Province, Yu Miaojie emphasized how China and Japan are neighboring countries with close economic ties. Building a trilateral free trade area among China, Japan, and South Korea, or establishing a bilateral free trade area between China and Japan, Prof. Yu continued, would have a more positive impact on Sino-Japanese trade. Simultaneously, the Northeast region boasts a complete industrial structure, solid industrial foundation, abundant natural resources, and enjoys geographical advantages in Sino-Japanese trade. In short, Prof. Yu sees great developmental prospects for the economy in the Northeast region.

The academic exchange event was also attended by Prof. Ma Shuang, Director of the International Exchanges Department; Prof. Cui Yan, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Japan Studies at the Institute of Japan Studies; Ms. Yin Ruyu, an assistant researcher at the China Open Economy Research Institute; and Ms. Liu Qian, an interpreter from the International Exchanges Department.
