From September 10 to 14, 2023, Professor Yu Miaojie (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the University), along with Professor Ma Shuang (Director of the International Exchange Office), Professor Yin Hong (from the School of International Economics and Politics), and Dr. Yin Ruyu (a young researcher from the China Open Economy Research Institute), formed a four-member delegation to attend the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia.
On September 11, Yu Miaojie and his delegation attended the 8th APEC International Education Sub Forum of the Eastern Economic Forum: “Education as a Path of Self- Actualization: Future Needs.” At the plenary meeting, Yu Miaojie began with a speech, “The Chinese Path to Modernization: New Ideas and New Paths.” In it, Yu discussed the new ideas and new paths of Chinese modernization, centering on scientific and technological innovation, educational development, and opening to the outside world. Yu indicated first and foremost that China has firmly implemented an innovation-driven development strategy in the long term, increased incentives for enterprise innovation, continuously enhanced national strategies in its scientific and technological strengths, and continuously empowered new driving forces for development. China’s adherence to new developmental concepts in innovation, environment, coordination, sharing, and openness is crucial for the long-term, high-quality development of its economy.
Secondly, Yu emphasized how the modernization of Chinese-styled education has successfully broken away from the modernization of Western models, providing a Chinese solution for the development of world education, showcasing the unique charm and vitality of Chinese education in all aspects such as philosophy, structure, system, content, methods, and governance. Finally, to raise its levels of opening-up and form a larger, more extensive pattern, wider fields and a deeper level of understanding will help improve the quality and level of the international cycle. With high-quality development, the Chinese path to modernization can become more stable and take a wider road.
The guests who spoke at the plenary meeting were Olga Petrova (Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia), Huai Jinpeng (Minister of Education of China) via a video speech, Dmitry Birichevsky (Director of the Economic Cooperation Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Nguyen Van Phuc (Deputy Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam) via a video speech, Boris Korobets (President of Far Eastern Federal University), Yu Miaojie (President of Liaoning University), and Gao Xinbo (President of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications). The host of the plenary meeting was Evgeny Vlasov, Vice President in International Relations at Far Eastern Federal University. Over 100 representatives of scientific and educational elites from Russia, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, and other countries attended the event. At the end of the meeting, the attending guests held an in-depth discussion on how universities should enhance the cultivation of students’ self-directed learning abilities and help them effectively adapt to the constantly changing world.
The 8th Eastern Economic Forum was held from September 10 to 13, 2023, at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. The theme of this year's forum was “Towards Cooperation, Peace, and Prosperity.” The APEC International Education Sub Forum, “Education as the Path to Self-Actualization: Future Needs,” was held from September 11 to 13. The agenda of the meeting included three themes: “Neural Networks and Artificial Intelligence in Education,” “Enhancing the Potential of IT Experts and Engineers,” and “Multi Competence: Prospects and Opportunities.”
